Project for the Development of Handicraft in Egypt

The project aims at developing skills in traditional and modern handicraft amongst youth and women in accordance with international standards. The initiative will reach as many youth as possible by sharing experience and developing a common work. It will also aim at transforming handicraft from a traditional activity to a more industrial one, and to set rules and standards in order to organize the work market in this field.

Aims of the project

• Development of skills amongst women and young workers in the field of handicraft and how to go from a traditional activity to a more industrial one by using the most modern techniques while keeping the manual spirit of the activity. Increasing the added value of the products by developing quality and creativity in order to increase the workers’ incomes;
• Development workers’ skills in modern handicraft;
• Initiate new rules and protocols in order to participate in the development of the society;
• Invitation to organize different handicraft activities and encouraging workers to integrate in official economical institutions in order to facilitate the process of training and to develop handicraft.

Activities

• Training trainers that will in the future be responsible for training workers in the field of handicraft. Trainings will be organized in centers in Egypt;
• Setting protocols in the field of traditional handicraft that will be recorded and used in the future for the training of workers;
• Diffusing these protocols within the handicraft milieux;
• Initiating the organization of an institutional framework in order to develop a work market in the field of handicraft.

Action Plan and Schedule

Duration: 18 months

First stage: 12 months

• Training of the trainers: training in three different types of handicraft (jewelry, woodwork and leather). Each training will last for four months. An Egyptian jewelry company will be associated to the project, as well as Assala Association, and the "Workers' University" (continuing education institution). Each trainee will obtain an official certificate after completing the training. The number of trainees will be later determined. Training will target current foremen and trainers that will in the future train new generations of workers.

Second stage: Performed at the same time than the First stage

• Protocols and rules: at the end of each training session a booklet will be issued that will include rules and protocols that should be used in handicraft. The booklet will be distributed within the handicraft milieux.

Third stage: 6 months (will start at the end of First and Second stages)

• Institutional framework: initiate the organization of an institutional framework in order to develop handicraft through the exchange of experiences and by looking at the level of organization of the production in different societies in order to reach the best system and legislation. A final conference will be held in order to raise these issues with decision makers.

Role of the partners

• Transfer of experience and know-how on how to organize the handicraft market. Also transfer of technologies in order to develop traditional techniques and to reach better added value while keeping the manual and traditional spirit of handicraft;
• Definition of rules and protocols aligned with the international standards and methods to implement them;
• Share experience on how certificates and licenses are delivered abroad.

Benefits and outcomes

• Realize sustainable development and enable women and youth to develop their skills in the field of handicraft. Also contribute to reducing unemployment by developing new job opportunities;
• Increase the quality of the production in handicraft in Alexandria. This is a necessary condition that should come with development;
• Influence decision makers in order to develop an institutional framework for the training of new workers and the improvement of work conditions, in order to increase both job opportunities and related income;

Create and develop relations within the Euro-Mediterranean area amongst people and associations specialized in handicraft through the exchange of trainees and trainers, as well as the exchange of artistic, cultural and scientific heritage in the field of handicraft.

تمكين الشباب والمرأة من اكتساب مهارات الحرف اليدوية التقليدية والحديثة توازى المستويات الدولية. و الوصول إلى اكبر عدد ممكن من الشباب ودعوتهم إلى تقاسم الخبرات والي العمل المشترك بلا حدود. وتحويل الحرف اليدوية التقليدية من حرفة إلى صناعة، ووضع معايير وضوابط لتنظيم سوق العمل في مجالات هذه الحرف.
هدف المشروع: 

1-تنمية مهارات المرأة و الشباب العاملين في مجال الحرف اليدوية التقليدية وكيفية تحويلها من حرفة إلى صناعة باستخدام أحدث التقنيات الحديثة مع المحافظة على روح الصناعة اليدوية مع تحقيق زيادة في قيمة الدخل

2-تنمية مهارات المرأة و الشباب العاملين في مجال الحرف  اليدوية الحديثة

3-الدعوة إلي الالتزام بالمعايير القياسية والبروتوكولات للمساهمة في التنمية وتحديث وتطوير المجتمع

4-الدعوة إلى تنظيم الحرف المختلفة وتشجيع الحرفيين على الاندماج  في مؤسسات الاقتصاد الرسمي لتسهيل عملية التدريب وتطوير الحرف

الأنشطة المتعلقة بالمشروع

1-تدريب مُدربين يتولوا تدريب الحرفيين في المراكز الموجودة في مصر

2-وضع بروتوكول للحرف اليدوية الحديثة وتسجيلها وتدريب الحرفيين عليها

3-نشر هذه البروتوكولات والمعايير في أوساط الحرفيين

4-الدعوة إلي التنظيم المؤسسي لسوق انتاج الحرف اليدوية

خطة العمل والجدول الزمني
مدة المشروع: 18 شهر

1-المرحلة الأولى: 12 شهر

أما عن الأعداد المنتظر تدريبها فسوف يتحدد في مراحل لاحقة. والتدريب مخصص لأسطوات الحرفة أو المدربين Trainers أو Foremen الذين يقومون بدورهم بتدريب أجيال  جديدة.

2-المرحلة الثانية: تسير بالتوازي مع المرحلة الأولى

-البروتوكول والمعايير:  في نهاية كل مرحلة من مراحل التدريب يصدر كتيب تدريبي يشمل معايير وضوابط كل حرفة ويٌنشر على نطاق واسع في أوساط الحرفيين

3-المرحلة الثالثة: 6 أشهر: تبدأ هذه المرحلة بعد انتهاء المرحلتان الأولى والثانية

-التنظيم المؤسسي: الدعوة إلي التنظيم المؤسسي لسوق انتاج الحرف اليدوية
وذلك من خلال تبادل الخبرات والاطلاع على مستوي تنظيم إنتاج هذه السلع في المجتمعات المختلفة للوصول إلي أفضل وأنسب النظم والتشريعات وعقد مؤتمر ختامي لطرح مطالب محددة على قيادات المجتمع ومتخذي القرار.

1-نقل خبرات وتجارب  حول كيفية تنظيم سوق الحرف اليدوية التقليدية والتقنيات الحديثة المتبعة في تطويرها وأحدث التصميمات وأساليب التسويق العلمية  مع المحافظة على  روح هذه الصناعة

2-التعريف بالمعايير العالمية التي تنظم سوق العمل في مجال الحرف اليدوية الحديثة وكيفية تطبيقها

3-تجارب الدول في منح الرخص والشهادات لتنظيم سوق الصيانة

الفائدة المرجوة من المشروع

1-تحقيق التنمية المستدامة للشباب و تمكين المرأة والشباب من ترقية مهاراتهم الحرفية للمساهمة في خفض معدلات البطالة.

2-تحسين مستوى جودة السلع والخدمات كشرط ضروري لازدهار التنمية.

3-التأثير على متخذي القرار بغرض الدعم المؤسسي للمساهمة في تنمية مهارات الحرفيين وتحسين ظروف العمل، مما يؤدي إلى زيادة فرص العمل والدخل.

4-توثيق العلاقات بين الشعوب الأورومتوسطية عن طريق تبادل المعارف حول التجارب والنظم والتراث الثقافي والفني والعلمي.
